Linux is by far the fastest growing Operating System in the market today. The deployment is spreading widely from individuals, enterprises to all sectors of the market. Linux has become one of the major parts of the information technology and economy worldwide, which involves massive business opportunities.
Aiming to demonstrate and motivate enterprises to deploy IT application on Linux platform, Hong Kong Productivity Council is pleased to join hands with Office of the Government Chief Information Officer and Hong Kong Linux Industry Association to organize “Linux Business Adoption Award 2005”. The award will be supported by reputable IT media, Hi-Tech Weekly and many other commerce and IT organizations. We hope to provide a distinguish event for winning enterprises to share latest technology solutions as well as their successful stories on Linux adoption. We believe the award will benefit the business companies and organizations greatly for providing solutions and concrete examples in their respective industries.
Press release and 「Linux 省港發展研討會」was begun at 2:15. Mr. Cheung Woon-hang, Chief System Manager of OGCIO was the special guest to witness the opening. Mr. KT Yung, the General Manager of IT Industry Development, HKPC delivered the welcome speech. Mr. Alan Kan, the Acting Chairman and Vice Chairman of HKLIA also expressed his gratitude and introduced the 「Linux Business Award 2005」.
The first speaker Mr. Andy Wong, 黃躍珍先生, 廣東省Linux
專門委員會副主任 gave a detail discussion on how Guangdong provincial government adopt Linux . The direction for Linux introduction was essentialized by 「堅定不栘,加強協調,穩步推進,力求突破」. Applause was won from the audiences.
The CEO of Linux Test Centre, Mr. Yuan Quan ( 廣東省Linux
公共服務技術支持中心- 袁泉主任) introduced that the centre is providing testing and verification for Linux hardware and software products.
While Professor Tang Yong of Computer Science Department of Sun Yat Sen University (中山大學信息科學與技術學院副院長 湯庸教授) expressed the University will provide sufficient Linux training to match the development of the technology.
Mr. Gordon Lo, Principle Consultant of HKPC talked about the encouragement of Linux and open source adoption in Hong Kong.
After a short break, Mr. Vincent Lau , CEO of Abas Software (PRC) Limited analysed the ERP market in China. Followed by Chris Ng, Partner and Business Development Manager of Novell introduced the Small Business Pack of SuSe Linux.
There was a question and answer session. The seminar was ended at 5:30PM.
