1st Linux Business Adoption Application Award Calls for Entry

To promote the application of
information technology (IT) over the Linux platform, the Information
Technology Services Department of the HKSAR Government, Hong Kong
Productivity Council (HKPC) and Hong Kong Linux Industry Association
jointly launched the 1st Linux Business Adoption Application Award.
Mr Gordon Lo, Principal Consultant (Enterprise System
Management), HKPC, said, "Linux is an open source operating
system which offers an easy access to IT adoption for business or
community users alike. Through this Award, we hope to raise the
awareness of the business and educational sectors on the possibility
of Linux, and motivate more individuals and companies to deploy
IT application over the Linux platform."
The Linux Business Adoption Application Award consists
of four categories, namely, Office Automation and Business Application,
Infrastructure Building and Communication Application, Educational
Application, and Linux Appliance. In the first two categories, there
will be prizes for small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) and
non-SME contestants.
Entries will be judged according to business objectives
and benefits, scale and scope of deployment, implementation strategy
and process, technology deployment and flexibility, innovation,
cost effectiveness, benefits to society and business results.
Companies and organisations with successful deployment
experience over the Linux platform are eligible to compete for the
Award. The closing date for application is 10 October 2003.
Winners will be honoured at an award presentation
ceremony on 4 November 2003, where their success stories will also

The Linux Business Adoption Application Award is
part of the Linux Business Adoption Campaign spanning September
to December 2003. Other programmes include the Linux Total Cost
of Ownership Analysis, Linux Solution Seminar Series and Linux Application
Awardees Seminar Series. The first seminar will be held on 16 September
2003.
The event is co-organised by the Small & Medium
Enterprises Office, Trade & Industry Department, HKSAR Government,
Hong Kong Chamber of Small and Medium Business, Hong Kong Linux
User Group, Hong Kong Linux Player Group, Linux Specialist Group
of Hong Kong Computer Society and World Expo (Asia) Limited.
